ラングドック地方は（2,600年以上経た）フランスで最も古くかつ一番大きなブドウ栽培地域です。その広大な地域は、気候とテロワールの素晴らしい多様性で知られています。つまり、様々なブドウの栽培に適しているのです。その地方には多くの大きなエステイトやワイナリーもありますが、大多数のワイン醸造業者は小さなエステイトを所有しています。大部分は小規模地域に存在しているので、お互いに助け合い、共に働くのは当然のこととなっています。1965年、最初は少数の同業者がワイナリーの“ル・プロデュクトゥール・レウニ”を創設しましたが、今では166の小さなワイン醸造業者を網羅しています。

そのワイナリーは自分たちのワイン造りの知識と技量を向上させるために、早い段階で外部のワイン専門家たちと連携することを決断しました。クーヴェ(COUVEYS)銘柄は、伝統にとらわれないワインの一つです。これらのワインが有名になり、その素晴らしさが評価されるのには時間がかかりませんでした。小さな丘の上のワイナリーがこのような魅力的なワインをどうしたら造ることができるのだろうかと不思議がられました。それ以来、専門的知識、改良されたブドウ栽培方法、最新のワイン醸造設備や技術に継続的に投資することで、ワイナリーはさらに向上しました。
気候とテロワールの素晴らしい多様性の結果として、その地域では58品種のブドウが栽培されています。それらの中にはカベルネ、シャルドネなどの国際品種と呼ばれている品種もありますが、特定の場所と土壌との組み合わせで時間とともに価値が証明されてきた古代品種が大多数です。

フランスのヴァラエタルワイン（ボトルの中のブドウ品種名を冠したワイン）の90パーセントはラングドック地方で生産されています。シャルドネとピノ・ノワールはこの広大で変化に富んだ地方のある地域で第二の故郷を見出しました。両品種はミネラル豊富な土壌と冷涼な地域で良く育っています。短期間オーク樽で熟成させるものもあります。そのワインは若くても親しみやすいものです。北部で育てられたブドウのワインよりも“全体的に果実味”が味わえるスタイルです。優しい酸味、魅力的なみずみずしさ、新鮮さ、そして後味が長く続きます。

The region of Languedoc is France’s oldest (over 2,600 years) and largest vine growing region. The vast region is known for its great diversity of climates and terroir. As such it is naturally suited to grow a large variety of vines. There are many large estates and wineries in the region but the majority of vintners are small family owned estates. Mostly located in small communities it is natural that they work-together and help- each other. The winery “Les Producteurs Reunis” was created in 1965, initially by a few associates but it now encompasses 166 small vintners. Early on the winery made the decision to work with outside wine professionals to improve their wine making knowledge and abilities.

The COUVEYS brand is one of their original creations. It did not take long for these wines to become well known and appreciated for their excellence. People wondered how a small hill-top winery could create such appealing wines. Since then they have improved further by continually investing in know-how, improved vine growing methods, modern wine-making equipment and technology.

Given its great diversity in climates and terroir 58 grape varieties are grown in the region. Some of them are so called international varieties like Cabernet, Chardonnay etc. but the majority are ancient varietals which, over time, have proven their worth in combination with their specific location and soil. 90 % of the wines sold as varietal wine in France (those named after the grape variety in the bottle) are produced in Languedoc. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have found their 2nd home in certain parts of this vast and varied region. Both do well in mineral rich soils and cooler areas. Some may be aged in oak barrels for a short time. The wines are approachable even when still young. They have a more “fruit forward” style than those grown in the north of the country. Their gentle acidity gives them an inviting freshness, juicy taste and lasting after-taste.
